Art showroom raid in Karbala unconstitutional – MP
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Iraqi Parliament’s culture, media, and tourism committee, Mofeed al-Jazaeri, on Saturday said that the raid of an art showroom in Karbala by security forces is in “violation” of the constitution, according to a release issued by his office. “News sources reported that security forces raided the showroom belonging to the cartoonist Salman Abid in Karbala,” said the release that was received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The forces confiscated some of his work, and tried to arrest the cartoonist who managed to escape,” it added. “These measures violate the freedom of expression protected by the constitution,” it explained. “We condemn the act and demand that the forces cease tracking Abid,” it noted. The release also demanded to start an investigation into the raid operation. MH (P)/SR 1
