Bomb blast kills Iraqi civilian in Mosul city
Mosul (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi civilian was killed Wednesday in a bomb explosion in Mosul city, the latest in a series of terrorist attacks targeting citizens across Iraq since the crushing defeat of the Islamic State militant group in 2017.
A security source told Dijlah TV news channel that a roadside bomb went off in al-Shoura district in southern Mosul, leaving an Iraqi civilian dead.
“The security forces cordoned off the blast scene and carried the body into the forensic medicine department,” added the source.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
