Bomb squad dismantles explosive barrel near Nineveh Police Academy
Nineveh (IraqiNews) A security source informed, on Sunday, that Bomb Squad dismantled a booby-trapped barrel, near the police academy in Nineveh.
The source said in a press statement that security forces from the Bomb Squad in Nineveh, managed to dismantle a booby-trapped barrel. The barrel, which contained ammonium nitrate, was emplaced near the police academy, in Shalalat area, in Nineveh Province.
The barrel bomb was dismantled by the explosives’ experts according to the standard procedures.
The process was conducted without any human injuries, the source added on condition of anonymity.
Since Mosul’s liberation, 8 million tons of explosive remnants still contaminate the city. Thousands of injured people are trying to access medical treatment. More than 300,000 displaced people are still surviving in camps and communities as Mosul, littered with explosive remnants of war, relief web reported.
Security reports indicate that the Islamic State group is still a threat against stability in Iraq. IS still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
It is noteworthy that Former Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced, in December 2017, gaining control on all the territories that were captured by the Islamic State group, since 2014.
