Civilian killed, another wounded in bus explosion north of Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) One civilian was killed and another was wounded when a bus exploded with an IED north of the Iraqi capital, a police source was quoted saying on Friday.
Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that an explosive device placed inside a bus exploded when it was passing through Jukuk area, north of Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding another.
Baghdad has seen almost daily explosions and armed attacks against security personnel and civilians since Islamic State militants took over a third of the country in 2014 to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” rule. Iraq declared victory over the extremist group last December.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said violence and armed conflict left 76 civilians dead and 129 others wounded during the month of June.
Iraqi security forces are still hunting for remnant militants across provinces and near the borders with Syria, with the group having launched several attacks since the Iraqi government declared victory.
