Demonstrators block Taji highway north of Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews) A security source informed, on Wednesday, that a number of protesters have blocked al-Taji highway, north of Baghdad.
In a press statement the source said, “This evening, demonstrators cut off al-Taji highway,” without giving any further details.
Yesterday, an Iraqi person was killed and 200 others were wounded in clashes between protesters and security forces in different Iraqi cities, the Ministry of Health said.
It is noteworthy that several areas of Baghdad, including its center (Tahrir Square) have witnessed sporadic demonstrations since Tuesday evening to express anger about the deteriorating situation in the country.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has expressed deep concern over the violent protests that took place in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities, leaving one person dead and 200 injured, including security members.
The protests have been renewed this morning calling for reform.
