Diala police break up assassination group, arrest its leader

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: Police in Diala province have announced on Saturday the dismantling of a network that was behind a series of assassinations, and arrested its leader. “Our forces has carried out a military operation in central Diala‘s Muhandiseen (Engineers) district, dismantling a three-man assassination network belonging to al-Qaeda Organization. The group’s leader was arrested, whilst two armed men that were accompanying him escaped to an unknown destination,” Diyala Police‘s official spokesman said. He pointed out that the said network “was involved in a number of assassinations, aimed against different personalities and security commanders in the province, using silencer pistols.” Baaquba city, the capital of Diala Province, is 57 kms to the northeast of Baghdad.
