Drop in Iraqi detainees in U.S. jails
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The number of Iraqi detainees in the U.S. jails went down to 14550, while the number of detained juveniles lowered to 38, the U.S. troops adviser said on Monday. “The number of Iraqis detained in the U.S. prisons went down to 14550, while the detainees under 18 were down to 38 after the implementation of U.S.-Iraqi accord which envisages the release of 1500 prisoners every month which means 50 prisoners everyday,” Karim al-Sayab told IraqiNews.com news agency. “A total of 656 Iraqi detainees have been released since the beginning of February,” he noted. Regarding detainees from other nationalities, the adviser said the forces keep 140 prisoners from Arab and foreign nationalities. U.S. forces keep thousands of Iraqi and foreign detainees in the two Bucca jails in Basra and in Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 1
