Female candidate assassinated in Mosul
NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Two gunmen shot dead a woman running in the country’s parliamentary elections on the list of the al-Iraqiya Coalition west of Mosul city on Sunday, a local security source said. “Two unidentified gunmen opened fire, using their guns with silencers attached, on Dr. Soha Abdullah Jarallah, a woman running on the al-Iraqiya Coalition list, in the area of Raas al-Jada, western Mosul,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The candidate’s relative was also wounded in the attack,” the source added. He said that Dr. Jarallah was a vet residing in Baghdad. “She came to Mosul on her canvassing campaign. As soon as she went out of the house of one of her relatives, where she was invited over lunch, two gunmen emerged and shot her down,” he added. The al-Iraqiya is a coalition of lists and blocs, most prominent of which is the bloc led by former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, Saleh al-Motalk’s National Dialogue Front as well as the blocs of Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, Deputy Prime Minister Rafie al-Issawi and lawmaker Dhafer al-Aani among others.
