Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – Five members of Islamic State were arrested Monday in the group’s previously proclaimed capital of Mosul, the Security Media Center announced.

Iraqi website Baghdad Today quoted the center as saying, “Iraqi troops in Mosul managed to arrest five IS militants, who are accused of forcing residents to leave their homes and launching attacks against security forces.”

According to the center, the arrests were made in al-Nimrud and Hamam al-Alil districts in Mosul pursuant to article no. 4 of the anti-terrorism law.

On Sunday, an Iraqi security source said that 13 members of Islamic State group were killed and two others were arrested during a security operation in Mosul.

In statements to Tasnim News Agency, the source said that a preemptive security operation was launched yesterday afternoon to track down Islamic State militants at Tal al-Sabt village in Hamam al-Alil district, 20 km south of Mosul.

According to the source, the security operation left 13 IS militants dead.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced last July liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from IS militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016.
