Four people killed, injured in two bomb attacks in Iraq’s Diyala

Diyala (Iraqinews.com) – Four people, including a well-placed municipal official, were killed and wounded Monday in two bomb attacks in Iraq’s Diyala province, security sources were quoted as saying.
Speaking to Alghad Press news website, a source said, “Three bombs planted by unknown men went off outside a house of a member of al-Abbara city council in northeastern Baqubah, leaving the municipal official and his uncle wounded.”
The two were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and security forces opened a probe into the bomb attack.
In another incident, a source said an explosive charge exploded in al-Azim area in northern Diyala, leaving a man killed and his wife injured.
In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
Iraqi cities have seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary troops and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Islamic State-occupied areas in 2016. Though most of the daily bombings go without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has declared it had been behind many.
