Four suicide attackers killed in infiltration attempt into Salahuddin

A statement by the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “troops of the 43rd brigade managed to foil an infiltration attempt by 15 Islamic State members in Tal al-Thahab region in the vicinity of Balad town, south of Samarra.”
“Four suicide bombers were killed, others were injured, while the rest ran away,” the statement added.
On Monday, a statement by the PMFs said four suicide attackers were killed as they were trying sneak into BIji region in Salahuddin.
Last week, PMFs reportedly killed three Islamic State militants who were attempting to sneak into villages near the Makhoul Mountains, north of the province.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
