 Iraq sentences ten Islamic State female members to life, Turkish to death

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The central criminal court has sentenced on Monday ten women, who belonged to Islamic State members, to life and a Turkish female member to life.

In a statement, Abdul Satar Bayraqdar, spokesperson for the High Judicial Council, said The Central Criminal Court in Baghdad “reviewed cases of group of women who belonged to Islamic State. They were of different nationalities including a Turkish and Azeri convicts.”

The court, according to Bayraqdar, “sentenced ten women to life over involvement in terrorism, while a Turkish member was sentenced death.”

In January, the criminal court in Diyala sentenced an Islamic State militant to death over involvement in killing 47 civilians in 2006.

Moreover, the Central Criminal Court in Baghdad sentenced a German female suspect of Moroccan origins to death over involvement with Islamic State militant group. During investigations, she admitted to traveling from Germany to Syria then to Iraq as she believed in the IS. She accompanied her two daughters, who were then married to IS members. The Diyala court issued two death sentences against a terrorist for transferring two suicide attackers, one of whom blew up himself in a funeral, while the other targeted a coffee shop in Muqdadiya.

In December, the Court sentenced two IS members to death over carrying out several crimes in the province, including a suicide attack that targeted a cafe in Muqdadiyah in 2016, which left many people killed and injured.
