Iraqi commander, companion injured in bomb attack in Baghdad

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – An Iraqi tribal commander and one of his companions were seriously wounded Saturday in a bomb attack in northern Baghdad, a security source was quoted as saying.
“A bomb went off near the house of a commander of the Tribal Mobilization Forces in al-Taji district in northern Baghdad, leaving him and one of his companions injured,” the source told Baghdad Today website.
A security force cordoned off the blast site and carried the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in its monthly statement on the number of casualties in Iraq.
“The figures include ordinary citizens and others considered civilian at the time of death or injury, such as police in non-combat functions, civil defence, personal security teams, facilities protection police and fire department personnel,” the statement said.
Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the statement, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), followed by Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) and then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured). Anbar suffered a total of 7 civilian casualties (none killed, 7 injured).
