Iraqi forces thwart car bomb attack in Gogjali, militant arrested

Nineveh (IraqiNews) Iraqi security forces announced, on Monday, foiling a booby-trapped vehicle attack and arresting a militant in Gogjali area, east of Mosul.
In a press statement, the Media Cell said that the security forces apprehended a suspect, after a partial explosion in a pick-up vehicle, in front of his house in Gogjali area in the city of Mosul.
The suspect claimed to have bought the vehicle recently, while a number of improvised explosive devices were found in the vehicle’s back, the statement added.
The statement also revealed that the incident did not cause any human losses, while pointed out that investigations are ongoing to discover the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, Head of the Security Committee in the Nineveh Provincial Council, Mohammed Ibrahim, announced that security forces managed to thwart the car bomb attack in Gogjali area of Kokli.
Ibrahim said in a press statement that forces from al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Paramilitary militia) managed to dismantle a car bomb in Gogjali area, without causing any significant losses.
The security forces arrested the suspect, who had the car bomb at his house, he added.
In early 2014, the Islamic State group launched a successful campaign to seize control of Anbar province, after defeating Iraqi Army. A number of operations were conducted to remove the group’s occupation of the province such as Anbar campaign (2015–16), the Western Anbar offensive (September 2017) and the 2017 Western Iraq campaign. Former Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi announced the liberation of the province on 2017.
