Iraqi police arrest suspect rigging IDs for Islamic State members
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi police in Nineveh province arrested an individual who forged IDs for Islamic State members, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The ministry said the suspect provided fake Iraqi IDs and citizenship declarations for Islamic State members residing abroad, that in collaboration with agents in Mosul’s police and civil affairs departments.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State extremists and the recapture of lands under their control late 2017. Since then, police apprehended several people forging IDs for the group’s members.
Mosul was the place from where IS founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the establishment of the group’s “caliphate” in Iraq and neighboring Syria.
