Iraqi soldier, civilians killed in two bomb blasts, northeast of Diyala

In press remarks, Mohamed al-Obeidi, head of the municipal council of Udhaim town, said “a bomb went off while a vehicle was passing near a village at the outskirts of Udahim, northeast of Diyala. A farmer and his son, who were on board of the vehicle, were killed.”
Military troops, according to Obeidi, “combed the region, when another bomb went off killing one of the soldiers.”
Violence left 174 Iraqis dead and wounded throughout the month of October, according to a monthly toll released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
