Iraqi soldier killed, officer wounded defusing trapped vehicle in Babil
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi soldier was killed and an officer was wounded while trying to deactivate a booby-trapped vehicle in Babil province, south of Baghdad.
The Joint Operations Command’s War Media Cell said the pair were deactivating the vehicle which was abandoned at Jurf al-Nasr region before it exploded.
Babil has been relatively stable on the security level, but witnessed some attacks against civilians and security troops.
Iraq declared military victory over Islamic State militants in December, ending three years of operations to retake areas occupied by the group in 2014.
Troops are still chasing remnant militants and struggling to remove explosives and war leftovers which have caused a number of deaths after the liberation of IS havens.
