Iraqi troops arrest Islamic State military commander in Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops arrested on Saturday a military area commander with the Islamic State extremist group in Kirkuk province, Federal Police said in a statement.
A Federal Police force arrested the militant, nicknamed Abu Ragahd, Islamic State’s military commander for the group’s so-called “Dijlah Province”, in Kirkuk, having received an intelligence tip about his presence there, according to the statement.
Interrogations with the militant led police to seizing an arms depot containing hand grenades and detonation equipment, the statement added.
Iraq declared in December 2017 victory over Islamic State militants and the recapture of territories they had occupied in 2014, but security authorities continue to hunt for remnant cells and struggle against occasional attacks by the group.
