Iraqi troops arrest six wanted men, including three terrorists, in Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi security forces arrested on Wednesday six wanted men, including three terrorists, in the capital Baghdad.
The three terrorists were arrested in al-Amel, al-Horriya and al-Sadr districts in Baghdad, Alghad Press quoted Baghdad Operations Command as saying in a statement.
The three others were apprehended on charges of rubbery and drug possession, the statement read, adding that all legal procedures were taken against the arrestees.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
