Iraqi woman killed in car bomb explosion in Salahuddin
Salahuddin (Iraqinews.com) – An Iraqi woman was killed and one of her relatives was injured Tuesday in a bomb blast in Salahuddin governorate, a security source was quoted as saying.
Speaking to Alghad Press, the source said, “An explosive charge went off while a private car was crossing a road in Albu Issa village in Salahuddin near borders with Diyala.”
According to initial reports, the bomb explosion left a woman dead and at least one of her relatives wounded.
“The victims were moved to hospital,” the source added.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State (IS) militant group, in most cases, is responsible for attacks targeting crowded areas, including markets, cafes and mosques across Iraq.
Iraqi cities have seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary troops and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Islamic State-occupied areas in 2016.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared in December final victory over Islamic State three years after the militant group captured about a third of Iraq’s territory.
However, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.
