(IraqiNews.com) Kirkuk – A security source in Kirkuk province announced on Thursday, ISIS elements have started to escape from Hawija with their families toward Nineveh and Sharqat, indicating that the district has become a “semi-free” from the presence of the organization.
The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com: “there is a great breakdown among ISIS militants in Hawija southwest of Kirkuk,” noting that, “ISIS elements began to flee with their families towards Sharqat district and Nineveh province because of the progress of the security forces in the district of Baiji.”
The source, who asked to remain anonymous, added: “Hawija district became almost free of terrorists,” noting that, “ISIS called the people of Hawija not to leave their homes otherwise it will punish them if they violated its orders.”
