Islamic State member killed, three others wounded in army airstrike, west of Anbar

Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source from Anbar Operations Command said, “army fighter jets shelled a vehicle of Islamic State once it arrived at Sad al-Khuzeimi region, west of Rutba, which left the militant tasked with transferring explosives, known as Khalaf al-Alwani, killed and three of his companions injured.”
IS members, according to the source, “managed to transfer the wounded to unknown destination.”
Alwani “is considered one of the prominent IS leaders and the mastermind of transferring explosives operations as well as transferring the suicide attackers who target military units in the western regions and other cities in Anbar as well,” the source added.
On Friday, two IS leaders were killed, while a third was seriously injured as army jets targeted a hideout of the militant group in al-Dabaa region, south of Rutba.
On Wednesday, nine Islamic State members were killed as army jets shelled a secret tunnel of Islamic State in Wadi al-Maraabdiya region in Hit town, west of Anbar.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
