Islamic State militant, farmer killed after gun attack in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State militant and an Iraqi farmer were killed after militants attacked a village in southern Mosul, a security source was quoted saying on Friday.
The source told Alsumaria News that the militants attacked the farmer’s house in al-Bouseif, south of the city, adding that the militants also attacked security members while removing the farmer’s dead body, but one militant was killed when the forces responded to the gunfire.
Security sources are still combing al-Bouseif, a jungle area on the Tigris banks, for IS hideouts.
Thousands of Islamic State militants and Iraqi civilians were killed since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S-led coalition, launched an offensive to clear IS-held regions, starting with Mosul in October 2016.
The campaign for Mosul lasted for more than eight months and managed to liberate the city in July.
Iraq declared a final victory over IS last In December.
Mosul was the place from where IS supreme leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, proclaimed the establishment of the group’s rule in Iraq and Syria.
