Islamic State’s top leader Baghdadi in new Iraqi list of wanted criminals
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is on a new list of persons sought by Iraqi security authorities for terrorism-related charges, according to a list obtained by Iraqi network Alsumaria News.
The new list contains 13 other people besides Baghdadi, of Iraqi, Saudi, Yemeni Jordanian and Qatari nationalities, according to the network.
On Tuesday, Iraq issued a list of 60 people wanted for terrorism charges, including the daughter of late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State militants in December, bringing down the self-styled “caliphate” declared by Baghdadi in June 2014 from Mosul.
Baghdadi’s whereabouts have been unknown since Iraqi forces launched a U.S.-backed campaign to retake areas occupied by his fighters. Conflicting reports have been made regarding his survival but his death has not been confirmed. His only public appearance was at the Grand Nuri Mosque of Mosul where he delivered his famous sermon declaring the establishment of the group’s rule, and was never heard of except through voice recordings attributed to him in which he commented on the progress of battles against Iraqi forces and urged his comrades to remain resilient.
Iraqi forces are still chasing remnant IS militants at desert areas.
