Karbala Police foil attempt by terrorists on motorbikes to attack city

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: An attempt by a group of “terrorists,” driving motorbikes, loaded with mortar shells and hand-grenades, had been foiled by the police, while trying to sneak into the city of Karbala, through the Hindiya farms, some 20 km to the east of the city, the Karbala Police Media Director reported on Monday. “Our police and security forces have foiled an attempt by a number of terrorists, driving motorbikes, after chasing them while trying to sneak into Karbala, leaving their motorbikes and escaping for an unknown destination,” the Media Director, Major Alaa al-Ani, told IraqiNews.com news agency on Monday. He said the police force had discovered 3 mortar shells and a number of hand-grenades inside the motorbikes,” which the terrorists were trying to drive them through the security checkpoints, in order to plant them against the visitors of Imam Hussein Bin-Ali’s 40th Martyrdom Anniversary Day. Iraq Muslims, especially Shiites, are commemorating nowadays the 40th Anniversary of Imam Hussein’s Martyrdom in Karbala at the dawn of Islam in the 61st Year of the Islamic Hijri Calender.
