Peshmerga announces launching operations to liberate Hawija and Sharqat
(IraqiNews.com) The headquarters of the Southern Operations Command of the paramilitary Peshmerga force announced launching military operations to liberate the districts of al-Hawija and al-Sharqat from ISIS militants.
The commander of the Southern Operations Command, Rasoul Omar, said in a statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “Operations to liberate the district of al-Hawija (45 km southwest of Kirkuk) and the district of al-Sharqat (120 km north of Tikrit) have begun today,” adding that, “The operations are carried out by the Peshmerga forces in cooperation with al-Hashed, which includes residents from the districts.”
