Police arrest wanted man in Kut
Kut-Wanted WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Police forces on Tuesday arrested a wanted man believed of being involved in the killing of an officer and his personnel last year by setting their car alight while they were inside in the city of Kut, a senior police officer said. “The forces arrested the wanted man and found a number of hand grenades and CDs in his possession when they raided his house in al-Damouk neighborhood in central Kut,” Major Aziz Amara told IraqiNews.com. “He is suspected of being involved in burning a police vehicle with a lieutenant and other personnel inside,” he explained. “He fled to Iran after the operation but he came back two days ago,” he noted. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SH (P)/SR 1
