Police detain wanted man in Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Policemen on Friday arrested a wanted man and found amounts of weapons and ammunition in his possession in north of Kut city, a security source said. “Police forces waged a crackdown operation in a region in north of Kut, where they arrested a wanted man and seized amounts of weapons and ammunitions in his possession,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The operation was based on a warrant of arrest issued against a number of wanted men and suspects believed of being involved in attacks against security forces and innocent civilians,” he added. “The forces found amounts of weapons and ammunition, including five Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), 15 anti-shields missiles, local-made bombs and amounts of TNT,” he explained. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad , is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra . Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
