Police find ammo in Babel

Babel-Ammo BABEL / IraqiNews.com: Police forces on Tuesday found a stockpile of weapons and ammunition in a garden in southern Babel, a police source said. “The depot, which was found in a garden in al-Hashimiya district in the south of Hilla, contains 48 cannonballs, 45 mortar shells, 20 missiles, and a number of bombs,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The operation was based on tips,” he explained. Babel, a Shiite province that lies 100 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, has an area of 6,468 square kilometers (2,497.3 sq mi), with an estimated population of 1,385,783 people in 2003. The provincial capital is the town of al-Hilla. The ancient ruins of Babylon (Babil, after which the region is named) are also in the province. SH (P)/SR 1
