Romanian battalion replaced in Nassiriya

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: A Romanian battalion on Wednesday arrived at the military Imam Ali base in southern Nassiriya city to replace another battalion, according to the U.S. army. “Romanian Red Scorpions 26 today arrived to take over from Red Scorpions 341,” a U.S. army media spokesperson said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “U.S., Romanian and Iraqi commanders met at the base, which is about 30 km southwest of Nassiriya city,” the statement noted. In August 2003, Romania sent over 5,200 servicemen to Iraq, of which only 600 soldiers remain in the country to provide intelligence support. Nassiriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, lies 380 km south of Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
