Security forces foil attack launched by 200 ISIS members south of Mosul

Nineveh – (IraqiNews.com) Head of security committee in Nineveh Provincial Council, Mohamed al-Bayati, announced on Saturday, that 200 members of the self-proclaimed Islamic State group attacked security sites, south of the province, and pointed out that security forces managed to kill 40 members of them and arrested 11 others.
Bayati said in a press statement, “Members of the Islamic State extremist group launched an attack on troops of Nineveh police and al-Hashd al-Shaabi in Qayyarah, south of Nineveh,” noting that, “The attack started after 200 militants crossed the Tigris River using boats, coming from Kanous village toward Imam village in Qayyarah, where violent clashes broke out between the militants, local police and al-Hashd al-Shaabi militia.”
“A number of terrorists blew up themselves, killing 3 police officers, including Deputy-Commander of Nineveh Police’s 8th regiment, Colonel Mojabl al-Jabouri,” Bayati added. “More than 40 ISIS militants were killed and 11 others were arrested,” Bayati explained.
Bayati also declared that forces from the Federal Police arrived, this morning, in the clashes area, and managed to foil the attack of the extremist group.
