Security forces repulse IS attack on Sharqat, 15 militants killed
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A local source in Salahuddin Province informed that security forces managed to repulse an attack launched by the Islamic State extremist group on the western side of al-Sharqat District, while pointed out that these forces also killed 15 members of the group.
The source said in a statement published by Alsumaria News, “Iraqi security forces repulsed an armed attack launched by the Islamic State terrorist group on the western side of Sharqat that was liberated earlier by security forces.”
“The security forces also managed to kill 15 members of the Islamic State, who tried to sneak into the city coming from al-Safina Village, located in the eastern side of the city,” the source added on condition of anonymity.
Noteworthy, Iraq is witnessing an extraordinary security situation, where ongoing military operations take place to drive out the Islamic State group, while the US-led international coalition is conducting several air strikes on the group’s headquarters, leaving many casualties among its ranks.
