Seven people injured in two bomb blasts in Baghdad
Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Seven people were wounded Wednesday in two bomb explosions in the north and southeast of Baghdad, security sources were quoted as saying.
Speaking to Alghad Press, the sources said that a bomb went off near a busy street market at al- Hussainiya district, north of Baghdad, leaving three people injured.
“A security force cordoned off the blast site and opened a probe into the incident,” the source added.
In another terrorist attack, four people were wounded when a bomb exploded at a village in al-Mada’in district, southeast of Baghdad, according to Baghdad Today news website.
Ambulances rushed to the blast sites and carried the injured to the nearest hospital for treatment, the sources added.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over 3 million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
A total of 115 Iraqi civilians, excluding policemen, were killed and another 250 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in January 2018, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI)
