Special Groups leader arrested in Wassit
WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi interior ministry’s Quick Response force arrested a Special Groups leader in northern Wassit on Monday, an official police source in the province said. “The force today raided a house in al-Suwayra district, (135 km) north of al-Kut city, capturing a Special Groups leader,” Cap. Majed al-Imara told IraqiNews.com. “The man, one of the leaders of the Special Groups coming from Iran, had escaped Baghdad to settle in al-Suwayra. He is suspected of involvement in killings, kidnappings and bombings in the capital as well as 17 murders,” said Imara. He noted that the raid was conducted upon intelligence tip-offs. The U.S. forces lends the name Special Groups to operatives suspected of receiving support and training from Iran to wage attacks against Iraqi forces. Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
