Suicide attack leaves policeman killed, 25 injured in Mosul
NINEWA, Sept. 21 (Iraqi News) – One policeman was killed and 25 others wounded in an initial count of casualties from a suicide attack with a truck bomb that targeted a police headquarters in western Mosul, a security source in Ninewa province said. “The truck bomb attack, which targeted the headquarters of a Ninewa police company in al-Mosul al-Jadida (New Mosul), in the western part of the city, leaving one policeman killed and 25 others, including 13 policemen, injured,” the source, who did not want to be named, told IraqiNews.com – Voices of Iraq – (Iraqi News). “The company HQ guards opened fire at the driver of the speedy explosive truck but the vehicle went off,” the source added. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. The original city of Mosul stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient biblical city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has now grown to encompass substantial areas on both banks, with five bridges linking the two sides. Despite having an amount of Kurdish population, it does not form part of the area controlled by the Kurdistan Regional Government Kurdistan RegionG). There are different communities in Mosul like Christians, Shiites and Kurds along with a Sunni majority.
