Suspected bomber kills policeman, guard during interrogation
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A man suspected of being involved in last week’s deadly blasts that left 155 casualties has killed a police officer and a guard while he was being interrogated at the Criminal Investigations Department, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said on Saturday. “The incident occurred when the suspect took one of the guards who was giving him water unawares, stole his personal weapon and shot him down,” a ministry statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency quoted Brig. Alaa al-Taie as saying. The suspect also shot Maj. Arkan Hajim, who, despite his injury, fired back at the suspect, the statement indicated. The major was killed during the exchange of gunfire, while the suspect died of his wounds in the hospital, it added. The Interior Ministry has admitted negligence in the incident, saying a probe will be conducted in this regard. On October 26, two car bombs exploded near the ministries of justice and municipalities and public works and in front of Baghdad’s provincial council, leaving dozens of people killed or wounded. The Islamic State of Iraq claimed responsibility for the bombings. SS (S)/SR 1
