Tikrit (IraqiNews.com) Three Iraqi Federal Police members were killed on Saturday when an explosive device ripped through their patrol in Salahuddin province.

Hamed al-Obaidi, a captain at the provincial police, was quoted by Turkish Anadolu Agency saying in press statements that the trio was on a mission combing desert areas for remnant Islamic State cells.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State militants late 2017, with all territories under the militants’ control seized back, but the security forces are still struggling to hunt for remaining militants, especially at desert areas.

The group, since the declaration of its defeat by the Iraqi government, has launched recurrent attacks against security forces and civilians.
