Three police personnel wounded in bomb explosion, southwest of Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Three police personnel, including an officer, were wounded in a bomb explosion, southwest of Kirkuk, a security source from the province said on Saturday.

In remarks to AlSumaria News, the source said, “a bomb, went off targeting a patrol for the Federal Police in al-Gharib village in Hawija town, leaving three personnel, including a police colonel, wounded.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, “troops cordoned off the explosion scene and prevented approaching. The wounded were transferred to nearby hospital for treatment.”

Earlier this month, two Iraqi policemen were killed after a bomb exploded while a police vehicle was on patrol in al-Rashad district, south of Kirkuk.

A total of 79 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 99 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in July 2018, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Baghdad was the worst affected Governorate, with 63 civilian casualties (30 killed, 33 injured), followed by Kirkuk (8 killed, 34 injured) and Nineveh (13 killed and 05 injured).

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
