Tribal fighter killed in armed attack north of Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A fighter belonging to al-Hashd al-Ashaeri (Tribal Mobilization Forces) was killed in an armed attck in northern Baghdad, Almaalomah website reported on Sunday.
A security source told Almaalomah that unknown assailants opened fire late last night against a car of an al-Hashd al-Ashaeri fighter while leaving his home, resulting in his death.
“A security force cordoned off the crime scene and took the body to the forensic medicine department,” the source added.
On Saturday, a tribal fighter was reported killed, while another one was injured in an armed attack against checkpoint in southern Baghdad, and two civilians were injured in a bomb blast west of the capital.
Bombings and armed attacks are seen on on almost a daily basis against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016.
More than 700 Iraqis were killed and wounded during the month of June as result of violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) which excludes security members deaths. Baghdad ranked the second place with 22 deaths and 88 injuries.
