Two militants sentenced to death for killing 12 people in Anbar

In a statement, Abdul Sattar al-Bayraqdar, spokesperson for the High Judicial Council, said “Dhi Qar Criminal Court reviewed cases of two convicts and sentenced them to death after they killed 12 civilians in Annah and al-Jazeera regions in Anbar.”
The court, according to the statement, “reviewed a case of one of the convicts and sentenced him to life for taking part in exploding houses in al-Wajihiya region in Diyala.”
Last week, court sentenced to death by hanging Ismail al-Eithawy, a deputy to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi over his involvement in terrorist acts. Earlier this month, a man was sentenced to death six times over his involvement in mass killings and kidnappings in the capital Baghdad.
Many Islamic State members were detained during liberation battles that freed cities, which were recaptured by the militant group in 2014.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
