Two tribal fighters killed, three wounded in clashes with IS in western Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Two persons were killed, while three others were wounded as armed clashes occurred among Islamic State militants and tribal fighters in west of Anbar province, a security source was quoted saying.

“Al-Hamza brigades [affiliated to the Tribal Mobilization Forces] launched attack against IS militants in Rawa town, west of Anbar, which left two killed and three wounded of the tribal fighters,” the source told Baghdad Today website on Friday.

“Fierce clashes are spearheaded by al-Hamza brigades and al-Jaghaifa tribes in the regions stretching between Rawa and haditha towns,” the source added.

Al-Hamza brigades reportedly killed on Thursday the group’s leader in Anbar, called Settir Kamel al-Dulaimi in Rawa.

Iraqi troops killed on Thursday eleven IS militants in a joint military operation launched in Anbar desert, according to the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

More than 500 Iraqis were killed and injured during July due to violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
