U.S. embassy mourns Iraqi novelist gunned down in Karbala
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Monday mourned the death of novelist Alaa Mashthoub, who was gunned down in Karbala city last Saturday.
“We offer our deepest condolences to family and friends of the Iraqi author Alaa Mashthoub who was killed in a senseless act of violence,” the embassy tweeted.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire at Mashthoub outside his home on Saturday afternoon. He was killed immediately. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
