U.S. forces to free 100 detainees Saturday – source

IRAQ, Sept. 19 (Iraqi News) – U.S. forces will release 100 detainees from their jails near the Baghdad airport on Saturday as part of a program to free Iraqi prisoners during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a media advisor for the U.S. forces said on Friday. “The detainees will be released from the Krupper jail, near Baghdad Airport,” Kareem al-Sayab told IraqiNews.com – Voices of Iraq – (Iraqi News). He said the U.S. army has released more than 1,000 Iraqis from its jails during Ramadan over batches, adding the total number of Iraqi prisoners in U.S. detention centers hit 18,900, including 150 juveniles and 10 women. “The parole release takes place after verifying that those prisoners would pose no threat to the Iraqi society if released,” Sayab added.
