UNAMI: 2, 532 human casualties in Iraq in June
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The United Nation Assistance Mission for Iraq stated in its report issued on Monday that the number of the human casualties in Iraq in June has arrived to 2,532.
According to UNAMI figures, a total of 761 Iraqis were killed and another 1,771 were wounded in acts of terrorism and violence in June.
The number of civilians killed was 685, including 131 police elements, and the number of civilians injured was 1,610, including 221 police elements. A further 76 members of the Iraqi Security Forces were killed and 161 were injured. Baghdad was the worst-affected Governorate with 950 civilian casualties where 258 were killed and 692 others injured, followed by Salahuddin, Ninewa, Diyala and Anbar. Kirkuk, Babil, Wasit, Basra and Najaf also reported casualties where dozens of people were killed and injured.
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq undertakes monitoring of the impact of armed violence and terrorism on Iraqi civilians in accordance with its mandate. UNAMI relies on direct investigation, along with credible secondary sources, in determining civilian casualties. UNAMI figures are conservative and may under-report the actual number of civilians killed and injured for a variety of reasons. Where different casualty figures are obtained for the same incident, the figure as verified by UNAMI is used.
