URGENT: Baghdad explosions kill 13, injure 49 Sunday
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: At least 13 persons have been killed and 49 others injured in a series of explosions that ripped through the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Sunday, a Baghdad security source said. “Four explosions took place close to the headquarters of the Iraqi Federal Police in west Baghdad’s al-Amil district on Sunday, followed by a booby-trapped car blast in the same place, killing 2 civilians and wounding 15 others, including 3 policemen,” the security source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The same source said that “a booby-trapped car blew off close to the Collage of Administration & Economy in east Baghdad ’s Mustansiriya University , targeted against a high-ranking officer in the Interior Ministry, who was not hurt, but the explosion killed a civilian and injured 5 others, including 2 of the officer’s guards.” “Three other explosions took place in east Baghdad, one in Beirut Square in Palestine Street, wounding 5 civilians, whilst another explosive charge blew off close to al-Sadr Hospital, killing 2 civilians and wounding 7 others, whilst the third blew off in east Baghdad’s al-Sadr Market, wounding 5 civilians,” he said. The security source also said that “eastern Baghdad ’s al-Wathiq square had witnessed two consecutive blasts, killing a civilian and wounding 12 others.” “A booby-trapped car blew off against a U.S. Army patrol, close to northern Baghdad’s Taji district, causing an unspecified number of casualties among the American patrol and damaging a number of its vehicles, followed by an attack by a suicide bomber, wearing an explosive belt, after the arrival of a police force to the venue of the blast, killing 7 persons and wounding 10 others, all policemen,” he concluded.
