US Defense Secretary: Iraqi forces are advancing in the fight against ISIS

(IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel assured that the Iraqi security forces are advancing in the right direction in their fight against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), pointing out that the Syrian regime has indirectly benefited from the international coalition.

Hegel said in statements followed by IraqiNews,“The Iraqi security forces are advancing in the right direction in their fight against the ISIS organization, although there are some obstacles,” adding that “he has never seen anything like ISIS before. It is very organized and its members are highly trained. It is well-funded, well-planned— and, it is savage and merciless.”

Hegel also said that ISIS represents a major threat to the region and the United States, and pointed out that that the US administration continuously evaluates its policies, but it is not expected to change strategies at the current stage.

Hegel acknowledged that the Assad regime has indirectly benefited from the international coalition that was constituted to fight the ISIS group.
