Violence kills 1 civilian, wound 2 in volatile Ninewa
NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: One civilian was killed and two others wounded in separate violent acts in the volatile province of Ninewa on Wednesday, a security source said. “A roadside bomb went off in front of a private electricity generators, leaving its operators killed in Badoosh, west Mosul,” a Mosul security source told IraqiNews.com. “A second roadside bomb went off against an Iraqi army patrol, wounding one civilian in al-Arabi district, north Mosul.” The source highlighted one national policeman was wounded when gunmen opened fire on his patrol near Ibn al-Atheer petrol station, west Mosul. Meanwhile, spokesman for Ninewa Operations Command Khalid Abdelsattar said “a force from the Army 2nd Division arrested three wanted individuals in al-Rashidiya district, north Mosul.” “The army seized forged ID’s, a handcuff, and a Klog pistol-used by Iraqi police,” he pointed out. “A force from the national police captured suspects during raid operations conducted in the districts of Ras al-Jada, al-Mansour and Wadi Hajar, west Mosul,” he added. Mosul, the provincial capital of Ninewa, 400 km north of Baghdad, is viewed by U.S. and Iraqi authorities as one of the last remaining al-Qaida strongholds in Iraq. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered a two-phase military crackdown in the northern city in May. Ninewa officials said the gains from these operations, however, have disintegrated as militant groups re-entered the city there due to an insufficient number of Iraqi troops to maintain security following operations in May.
