Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that three of its soldiers were killed in military confrontations with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense mentioned in a statement that three soldiers of the Turkish army, including an officer, were killed during confrontations with the PKK in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The Turkish forces announced more than a week ago the launch of a large-scale military operation against members of the PKK, which Ankara classifies as a terrorist group, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and Syria, as a continuation of a large-scale military campaign it launched in June 2020.

Turkey, on the one hand, and Iran, on the other hand, are escalating their military attacks inside the border strip at the Kurdistan region of Iraq, under the pretext of pursuing opposition elements posing a threat to their national security.

The Ministerial Security Council in Iraq revealed three days ago that forces belonging to the Iraqi border guards will be deployed at the borders with Turkey and Iran, to prevent the recurrence of the attacks which Baghdad describes as a ‘violation of sovereignty.’

Baghdad submitted many protest notes and expressed rejection and condemnation of the military violations practiced by Iran and Turkey against the Iraqi territories in the past two years, and threatened more than once to internationalize the issue.
