Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi military official announced that four Iraqi soldiers were killed on Saturday in an armed attack targeting an Iraqi army barracks in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, 255 kilometers north of Baghdad.

The Iraqi official mentioned that the attack took place at 5 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT), according to the AFP.

The area where the attack took place is not far from the areas where Kurdish Peshmerga forces are deployed. The area also sometimes witnesses activities of remnants ISIS terrorists or members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), whose sites were targeted by drone attacks months ago, according to the Iraqi official.

“Following the attack, a security force rushed to the scene, and the Iraqi army sent military reinforcements to the area,” the Iraqi official mentioned.

The terrorists stole the soldiers’ phones and their weapons, the official added.

Despite the Iraqi forces recovered all the cities from the grip of ISIS during the liberation battles five years ago, ISIS terrorists still pose a threat to Iraqi security by launching attacks and causing losses from time to time.

The Iraqi forces are pursuing remnants of ISIS group through continuous military operations in different areas in the country, most of these operations are focused in areas near the borders where terrorists are still active.
