5 ISIS militants killed in air strike in northern Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi security announced on Sunday that five militants belonging to ISIS group were killed in an air strike in the town of Tuz Khurmatu in Salah Al-Din governorate in northern Iraq, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC).

The statement of the ISMC mentioned that the air strike was carried out in the town of Tuz Khurmatu in Salah Al-Din governorate on January 21, and Iraqi Special Forces, with support and planning of the Joint Operations Command, began inspecting the site after the air strike was carried out.  

After inspecting the targeted site, the Iraqi Special Forces found five dead bodies of terrorists. Two of the bodies were identified and the rest were unidentified human remains, the statement clarified.  

The Special Forces also found weapons, ammunition and logistical materials, and the forces are still searching the targeted place, the statement added.

In 2017, Iraq announced the elimination of ISIS group after it occupied about a third of the country following nearly three and a half years of confrontations before the Iraqi security forces take full control of the territories ISIS occupied.

Although the Iraqi security forces are imposing full control over the Iraqi lands since 2017, some hiding ISIS terrorists are still active in some areas of the country, but the Iraqi forces carry out air strikes and targeting operations against the remaining terrorists belonging to ISIS.
